Henderson County Teen Named 2026 Youth of the Year at Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County

Big news from the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County! Luna Trejo-Lugo, a senior at North Henderson High School, has been named the Club’s 2026 Youth of the Year.

Luna has been a Club member for 12 years, growing up in the Club’s programs and evolving from a curious young child to a confident leader. She has participated in Keystone Leadership, the RISE workforce development program, and student ambassador roles, showing dedication to helping others and embodying the Club’s mission to develop the mind, body, and soul of every member.

“I remember as a young kid thinking, ‘what are these names in the game room?’ But now, I am one of those names,” Luna shared in her WLOS ABC 13 interview. “Seeing me grow from a small child to winning Youth of the Year… it’s an immaculate feeling honestly.”

Luna’s journey has been guided by her mentor, Carlos Vega, Operations Director at the Club, and supported by a panel of judges including Ed Arnold, Blair Craven, and Mayor Preston Blakely. She competed alongside fellow candidates Solomon and Stephan, all of whom demonstrated courage, heart, and dedication.

Thanks to the generosity of the Club’s partners, Luna will receive a $1,500 scholarship—$1,000 from presenting sponsor Hunter Subaru and $500 from supporting sponsor Publix. She now advances to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) North Carolina State Youth of the Year Competition, with the chance to move on to the Southeast Regional Competition and ultimately compete for the title of National Youth of the Year and a $25,000 renewable scholarship.

The Club invites the community to celebrate Luna’s achievement and follow her journey on social media.

Youth of the Year is the highest honor a Club member can achieve, and Luna’s story is a shining example of leadership, perseverance, and commitment to giving back. Congratulations, Luna!
