This summer, the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County reached a new milestone when 476 youth attended the Club in a single day, one of the highest attendance days on record.

While the number is exciting, it only tells part of the story.

At the Club, CEO Kent Parent refers to the staff as “The Difference Makers,” a reflection of the impact they have on the lives of young people every day. The name stuck because it captures what members experience when they walk through the doors: caring adults who show up consistently, build relationships, and help kids feel seen, supported, and encouraged.

As Kent Parent shared, “Our programs are important, but it’s the relationships that make the greatest impact. Our Difference Makers show up every day committed to helping our Club Kids succeed.”

No two days at the Club look exactly the same. One day, members may be participating in Brain Gain, reading with friends, or diving into a STEM activity. The next, they might be exploring a local attraction on a field trip, taking a walk on the Parkway, or taking part in Members Choice activities shaped around their interests and voices.

For many families, the Club offers more than summer programming. It provides a safe, consistent place where their children are known by name and surrounded by caring adults, while also allowing parents to continue working full time during summer break. Because the program is completely free, it removes barriers for families across Henderson County.

For Members, it is a place where friendships are built, confidence grows, and summer memories are made.

As attendance continues to grow, one thing remains clear: activities bring kids in, but it is The Difference Makers who keep them coming back.

Because every number represents a real child whose summer is being shaped by opportunity, connection, and care.
