Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County Strengthens School Partnerships Through Class2Club Program

When a student walks into school and sees a familiar, trusted adult waiting to greet them, something shifts. The day feels a little safer. The challenges feel a little smaller. For many children in Henderson County, that familiar face does not disappear when the school bell rings. Instead, it follows them into the afternoon at the Club, creating a steady presence in two of the most important places in their lives.

A consistent and caring adult presence can make all the difference in a child’s life. With this belief at its core, the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County established the Class2Club program, an innovative model designed to bridge the gap between the school day and after-school hours.

Class2Club strategically places trained Club employees inside local schools during the academic day. These same staff members then transition to the Club each afternoon, ensuring students see a familiar and trusted face in both environments. Known as Class2Club Professionals, these team members tailor their support to meet the unique needs of each school.

In the classroom, some Class2Club Professionals provide tutoring or lead small-group instruction. Others assist teachers by supporting students who need extra help with independent work. Many also serve as mentors, offering emotional guidance and encouragement to students who benefit from additional support. Each Class2Club Professional works closely with school principals and administrators to ensure their efforts align with school priorities and student needs.

When the school day ends, their impact continues.

At the Club, Class2Club Professionals lead tutoring sessions, manage Homework Club, and serve as grade-level leaders. Throughout the entire day, they focus on building meaningful relationships and helping young people reach their full potential.

During the school day, Class2Club Professionals serve up to 450 children across partner schools. While some of these students are Club members, approximately one-fourth are officially enrolled. In the afternoons, up to 90 children are served at the Club through this shared staffing model. By extending staff across both settings, Class2Club maximizes impact and creates continuity in academic and social-emotional support.

Beyond direct service, Class2Club Professionals act as a vital communication link between schools and the Club, allowing academic progress, attendance patterns, and behavioral concerns to be addressed proactively. Working together as a unified team demonstrates to students that their schools and the Club are committed partners in their success.

Class2Club currently operates in Bruce Drysdale Elementary School, Clear Creek Elementary School, Dana Elementary School, Edneyville Elementary School, and Upward Elementary School. In partnership with the Education Foundation, a Class2Club Professional also supports the Pathfinders Program at Flat Rock Middle School and East High School.

The impact of Class2Club is reflected not only in student growth, but also in the words of school leaders:

“Mr. Davila’s dedication and compassion embody what it means to give back, and his impact will continue to be felt by our students, families, and staff for years to come. We are deeply grateful for the Class2Club program and for the partnership with the Boys and Girls Club that made his work possible.”
Amy Cleveland, Principal, Dana Elementary School

“Mr. Wright’s consistent presence and genuine care make a noticeable difference in our school’s culture. We are truly blessed by the Class2Club program and Bryan’s dedication to supporting our students’ academic and emotional growth.”
April Summey, Assistant Principal, Bruce Drysdale Elementary School

“Ms. Abee does a wonderful job supporting students throughout the building. She plays an invaluable role in helping us communicate effectively with our Spanish-speaking students and families.”
Andrew VunCannon, Principal, Edneyville Elementary School

Class2Club ensures that children have access to a consistent, dedicated adult every single day, someone who cares, advocates, and walks alongside them both inside the classroom and beyond it.

As the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County looks ahead to 2026, one truth remains clear: Henderson County needs more Club kids, and Club kids need you. Through partnerships like Class2Club, the Club is meeting students where they are and ensuring they have the support they need to succeed. With continued community investment, even more children can experience the confidence that comes from knowing someone is always in their corner.
