Sue Fazio, with her husband Tom, founded the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County. They established the Club with three basic assumptions in mind. First, if you do the right things for the right reasons, somehow, someway everything works out. Second, to be successful, the entire community has to support the Club. And last, if a town like Hendersonville cannot provide the environment and support for our at-risk children, then it cannot happen anywhere in America, and our country is in BIG trouble… Sue’s motivation comes from feeling blessed with an amazing family (she and Tom raised six wonderful children and are blessed with sixteen grandchildren!) and her desire to help provide a safe and nurturing environment for less fortunate children. Besides her family, the Club is the single most important commitment she has made in her life.
Sue is also passionate about helping women (she worked as a counselor for Safelight for five years) and she continues to support Safelight as well as every child-centered organization in Hendersonville. Sue has owned many businesses and donated the proceeds of these ventures to the Club. From donations of her artwork alone she has generated over $467,000 benefiting the Club.
Sue received her doctorate in education from Florida Atlantic University in 1989, and she was an instructor at the University of North Carolina- Asheville for five years. Sue and Tom support many local charities, and Sue has served on numerous boards in the Hendersonville community for a wide range of causes.
