Johnny Johnston retired from the United States Army in 1988 after a distinguished 23 year career as an pilot in Army Aviation. Johnny transitioned into corporate aviation, flying from Asheville, which brought him and his family to Hendersonville. In his latter career he established a partnership with Veterans Airlift Command (VAC), a service to provide free air transportation to wounded soldiers and their families. Johnny developed a passion for volunteering during this time, and prior to his retirement in 2015, he had completed more missions with the VAC than any volunteer at that time. Johnny’s aviation career allowed him to travel to all 50 states and to 29 international countries. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University.
Johnny and his wife Brenda have a son and daughter who both graduated from West Henderson High. Both went on to success in college and career, now serving within the banking industry in Charlotte, NC. Johnny and Brenda also have three grandchildren ages 6, 4, and 8 months. Johnny is an avid golfer and member of the Hendersonville Country Club where he was first connected with the Boys & Girls Club back in 2005. He has served on the Board of Directors since 2020.
