John grew up in Spartanburg and spent his summers as a camper and counselor at Camp Pinnacle in Hendersonville. After graduating from Clemson University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering he began a 32-year career with Exxon Mobil Corporation.
John and his wife, Patsy, first got involved with the Boys &Girls Club of Henderson County about ten years ago. They assisted with, and then coordinated, the Gift of Giving program, which allowed Club kids the opportunity to “shop” for Christmas gifts for their caregivers. John was appointed to the Club’s Board in 2026.
In addition to the Boys & Girls Club, the DuPre’s are active supporters of the Brevard Music Center, the Clemson University Educational Foundation, and the Art League of Henderson County.
John and Patsy have two children and one grandson. They like to travel and enjoy outdoor activities such as golf, hiking, biking and gardening.
