Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County Intends to Submit Cohort 18 Proposal

The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson Co. / Hendersonville, Inc. d/b/a as the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County, is announcing on this date, January 15, 2025, its intention to submit a proposal to serve in Cohort 18 of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program competitively administered by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County has previously served in Cohort 16 of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program that ran from 2022 to 2025. This announcement makes no forecast as to the potential outcome of this application.

The purpose of the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program is to establish or expand community learning centers that operate during out-of-school-time (OST) hours and which provide academic enrichment, a broad array of additional activities, and meaningful engagement opportunities for families. The Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County believes that it can submit a proposal of relevant activities as a local provider of afterschool and summer youth development services.

The 21st Century grant allows the Boys & Girls Club to:

  1. Extend learning opportunities: Offering after-school and summer programming that boosts academic performance and engages youth in new and creative ways.
  2. Provide a safe and supportive environment: Ensuring that Club members have a secure place to go after school, reducing the time they may otherwise spend unsupervised.
  3. Offer enrichment activities: From STEM programs to arts, the grant enables a variety of experiences that encourage curiosity, creativity, and growth in Club members.
  4. Family involvement: The grant also helps engage families, providing resources that help support children’s learning and development.

By securing this grant, the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County can continue to offer programs that directly address the needs of the community’s youth, empowering them to succeed in school and life. This also allows the Club to waive the membership fee (previously $5) for all members.
