VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Tutoring
K-5th volunteers needed, specifically in reading and math. Power Hour (assisting with homework or tutoring) runs from 3:40pm-4:30 pm and 4:30-5:30 pm Monday-Thursday.

Homework assistant: Assist youth ages 6-18 in the completion of their homework. The “Power Hour” program divides students into groups by their grade. This program is a critical part of our after-school academic program. All club members are required to complete their homework or an enrichment activity before they can participate in another program area.

One-on-one Tutoring: Work one-on-one with an individual student who needs extra help to improve their academic skills. Tutoring activities include helping with homework and/or preparing for exams. Our staff will pair each tutor with a student and provide resources and a plan of action for each tutoring session. Tutoring needs vary across subjects and grade levels between elementary, middle school and high school.

Feed the Kids – Work with a dedicated group of volunteers to prepare and distribute Friday dinners for all members.

Athletics and Recreation:  Fall and winter offer coaching/referee opportunities for soccer and basketball. Referee an indoor soccer or basketball game or coach a team of ten club members participating in a league. Help club members learn fundamental skills during practice and games and serve as a role model for sportsmanship both on and off the court.

During summer, help one of our youth learn how to swim or improve their aquatic skills Monday-Thursday, or chaperone one of our daily field trips.

Help staff organize tournaments for club members in a variety of interactive games or simply join youth in a game of pool, foosball, or show an eager child how to play your favorite board game.

Resource Development:  Help staff with mailings, event preparation, stewardship efforts, etc.

Programming Assistance
Career Talk – Motivate teens by speaking with them about a specific career path, the steps it will take to get them there, hurdles they may encounter and how to overcome those hurdles, school requirements, etc. Share your story with them!

Help our staff lead fun, enriching activities to help members learn and explore subject areas including: Enterprise/Vocational skills, Culture, Cooking, Poetry, Dance, Journalism, Creative Writing, Painting and Design, Horticulture, Gang and Drug Awareness and any other skills or strengths you may be willing to share.

Join teen members as they explore creative arts, technology, cooking skills and social activities. Help lead workshops on life skills, fiscal responsibility and Career building as we help teens prepare for real life responsibilities.

Assist club members as they use computers to research topics on the Internet and learn new software programs. Plan and lead a workshop on a software program or application. Workshops can include; Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Internet Safety, etc.

Join our youth in the Art Room and help children use their creative skills to their fullest potential!
